A tango fusion show for full orchestra. Arrangements commissioned by Bridge & Wolak from Canadian composer/arranger Charles Cozens.
TANGORIUM at Brockville Centre for the Arts October 28, 2023
Reflecting the spirit of our times, TANGORIUM portrays stories of Tango through diverse cultural contexts that made its voice. This multimedia show for full orchestra + clarinet & accordion soloists pays homage to intimate Tango classics of the 1930s, through Piazzolla’s Tango Nuevo, to epic symphonic-tangos that uniquely fuse the music of classical grandmasters (Bach, Beethoven) with modern musical genres such as French Cabaret, Rock (Sting), Tango Club and even Heavy Metal. These steamy musical collisions are expressed in the emotionally provocative and sensual language of Tango, enhanced with on-screen films, animations and pre-recorded shadow-puppetry. TANGORIUM’s music was custom-created by renowned arranger Charles Cozens. It is scored for full orchestra with clarinet and digital accordion / bandoneon soloists, eloquently performed and narrated by the internationally-acclaimed Canadian duo Bridge & Wolak.
